EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
POSITION SUMMARY
Youth ALIVE! is seeking an visionary leader with success, passion and experience in preventing youth violence, plus the non profit management skills necessary to enhance the organization and work in partnership with the board, staff and multiple stakeholders. S/he will have integrity, excellent communication and critical thinking skills, and be a persistent and resourceful self-starter who is able to achieve results.
The Executive Director reports to the Board of Directors. S/he is responsible for day- to- day operations and management of the organization, including fundraising, program planning, policy and research development, finances and staff management.
ABOUT YOUTH ALIVE!
We work to prevent youth violence and generate youth leadership in California communities, in particular in communities strongly impacted by violence.
Youth ALIVE!, founded in 1991, is a nonprofit public health organization that addresses the epidemic of violence through prevention, intervention and advocacy by working closely with local, state and national partners. For more information please visit our website at www.youthalive.org.
Youth ALIVE!'s budget is approximately $1.5 million.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fund Development: Takes overall responsibility for fund development; actively cultivates relationships and opportunities with a broad spectrum of funders
- Staff management and Leadership: develop and manage an effective team. Supervise senior management staff of Program and Administrative Directors
- Youth Violence Prevention Advocacy: Acts as spokesperson, educating and advocating on behalf of youth violence prevention policies in public arenas.
- Program: Ensures high quality program planning, development and performance to maintain high standards that support agency mission.
- Work in partnership with the Board of Directors to create strategy and vision for the agency.
- Financial Management: Oversees financial management and fiscal sustainability and accountability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Non profit management – a minimum of seven years of progressive management experience, with two to three years working in a senior level position. Executive Management experience preferred.
- Understand the dynamics of board and staff roles and responsibilities and provide leadership. Work experience and knowledge of public health, hospitals, schools, youth, and other fields relevant to Youth ALIVE!'s mission an asset.
- Masters level degree in public health, social work, public policy or related field, exceptions will be made for exceptional candidates.
- Proven strong advocacy and policy skills, as demonstrated by leadership in successful policy (systems, legal, legislative).
- Successful record of 5-10 years of raising funds from foundation and government sources with increasing amounts from $500,000 minimum annually; outstanding grant and report writing ability.

COMPENSATION:
Youth ALIVE! is offering a competitive salary and benefits package.
Compensation will be based on the successful candidate's experience and qualifications and be consistent with organizations of Youth ALIVE!'s size and budget.
