Kyndra Simmons, director of Youth ALIVE!’s intervention efforts, manages our hospital-based violence intervention and case management programs. She is a nationally-recognized expert in preventing urban violence. After years as an Intervention Specialist herself, it is her job to match Caught in the Crossfire frontline staff with young, hospitalized Oaklanders who have just been shot or stabbed. She keeps a close eye on her staff, whose jobs can cause emotional strain or sometimes lead to threats to safety. Kyndra serves as a lead trainer for the National Network of Hospital-based Violence Intervention Programs, providing expertise and technical support to the network and its member agencies. Her interests in mental health have led her to focus on how trauma affects families and communities at large, emphasizing the role of environment in the spread of violence. She holds both a BS and Masters of Science in Psychology.
