See the great documentary about former Chicago gang members trying to break the cycle of violence in their community, then participate in a discussion of violence interruption on our streets here in Oakland, with Oakland’s Interrupters.

ABOUT OUR VIOLENCE INTERRUPTERS

All of our programs at Youth ALIVE! seek to interrupt the cycle of violence. But one of them does it literally: our team of Violence Interrupters.

Many shootings come in retaliation for past insults or aggressions.

In that moment, violence can seem like one solution to a problem. Youth ALIVE!’s Violence Interruption team is composed of men who understand what can happen on the streets, and why.

They bring their knowledge and problem-solving skills to situations that can be volatile, unpredictable, dangerous, where life is sometimes at stake.

They work tirelessly to mediate beefs, to find peaceful solutions, before the guns come out.

They save young lives in Oakland every day. Hear their stories.

Join us for a discussion of their work Tuesday evening, November 13 at the New Parkway.

Tickets $12/$10 for seniors and students
