“I’m a community advocate,” Alia Glover said. The Community Leadership Liaison sees her role at Youth ALIVE! As leading an advocacy program for anyone who wants to have a voice in making changes about the gun violence in Oakland. For those interested she organizes speaker training as well as speaker opportunities at political and civic events.

The most challenging part of her work is being in spaces she might not normally find herself. “Like when we go to the capitol, being with the politicians and mayors and district attorneys,” Alia said. “The best part is also being in those spaces and giving back to my community and being able to still be in my community.”

The mother and East Oakland native has always given back to the community and her work now is a continuation of that. “I’m learning every day and I enjoy doing what I’m doing,” Alia said. “ I’m determined to make a change and to see the outcome.”
