The Oaklandside | OUSD commits to violence intervention in Oakland schools next year
Violence prevention belongs in our schools.
A new article from The Oaklandside highlights proposals to continue investing in violence prevention services across Oakland schools and the critical role community-based organizations play in creating safer, more supportive environments for students.
At Youth ALIVE!, our school-based violence intervention teams work directly alongside young people, school staff, families, and community partners. They build trusted relationships, mediate conflicts before they escalate, connect students with critical resources, and create safe spaces where young people can be heard, supported, and given opportunities to thrive.
This work is not just about responding to violence after it happens. It is about preventing harm, addressing trauma, strengthening relationships, and ensuring young people have trusted adults in their corner.
Oakland has made tremendous progress in reducing violence. Continued investment in proven, community-based prevention strategies is essential to sustaining that progress, especially in the places where young people spend so much of their time.
Thank you to The Oaklandside for continuing to shine a light on the people, partnerships, and investments helping build safer schools and a safer Oakland.
