Born and raised in Oakland, California, I have navigated the challenges and setbacks of growing up in a community impacted by systemic inequities and violence. A life-changing incident that ended my basketball career propelled me into a journey of resilience and service. Guided by the principle to “be better today than you were yesterday,” I earned a master’s degree from Cal State East Bay and discovered my passion for violence prevention during an internship at Youth ALIVE!.

As the Intervention Programs Director at Youth ALIVE!, I oversee strategic planning and execution of programs designed to break cycles of violence and foster safer communities. Our Pathways program provides mentoring and casemanagement for youth on probation or re-entering after incarceration, pairing them with mentors who share lived experiences and serve as guides and role models.

Our Violence Interrupters (VIs) initiative, inspired by the Cure Violence model and uniquely adapted for Oakland, deploys credible messengers to de-escalate tensions and prevent violence. VIs work in neighborhoods to mediate conflicts, promote peaceful solutions, and provide critical support to at-risk individuals.

Through our nationally recognized hospital-based intervention program, Caught in the Crossfire (CiC), we connect with victims of violence immediately after injury, offering practical and emotional support to aid recovery and deter retaliation.

Together, these initiatives form a , integrating outreach, mentorship, and hospital-based services to create a safety net for individuals affected by violence. With over eight years of experience in violence reduction, I combine hands-on leadership with strategic vision to strengthen these programs and expand their reach.

Beyond my professional role, I am deeply committed to fostering resilience and empowerment within my community. Drawing inspiration from Oakland’s rich cultural heritage and dynamic spirit, I collaborate with local organizations to support individuals navigating recovery and growth after trauma. My dedication to advocacy and community engagement drives me to amplify voices, create opportunities, and champion equitable solutions that build stronger, safer neighborhoods.
